148

2005

37 seconds, super 8 film

A re-worked home movie, 148 documents a transition in my personal landscape. An attempt at preserving objects and spaces infused with memories which failed when most of the film was accidentally destroyed. The remaining fragments - comprised mostly of end frames from the film reels - are stripped of clear representation, revealing elemental properties of shimmering colour, texture and pattern. The resulting film becomes a mirror of both the initial flawed attempt (of trying to document the unseen properties of these objects), and of the slippery, intangible nature of memories as a mix of firsthand experiences intertwined with their repeat and re-telling.
